Every year, opening a credit line becomes more and more popular among those who want to get funds on credit. To a greater extent, this term is applicable to a banking product intended for legal entities. The function of a credit line for individuals is largely performed by a credit card.
A credit line is one of the types of long-term lending, in which the borrower has the right to receive funds from the bank for his own needs within the agreed issuance limit within a certain period of time. The withdrawal limit is the maximum possible amount of money allocated by the bank to a specific client, within which he can perform operations. The borrower does not receive money immediately, but in parts throughout the entire loan period.
The bank may set, instead of the issuance limit, a debt limit – the maximum amount of debt on a certain date. Having exceeded this limit, the client will not be able to use credit funds. If he makes a payment to pay off the debt, obtaining a loan will again become available, and in an amount equal to the payment made. It is possible that the limit for issuance and debt is set at the same time.
Features of the credit line
It is drawn up once, and the money is issued in tranches during the agreed period – the client does not need to submit an application each time and provide a package of documents for obtaining a loan.
In case of non-use of borrowed funds, the bank does not charge interest on them.
The need to pay off the debt occurs after the client receives the money.
The service is provided only to reliable customers with high paying capacity and good credit history.
Individual entrepreneurs to cover costs.
Private companies most often draw up a line of credit to cover cash gaps, increase current assets, and pay salaries to employees. When implementing an investment plan, a company often uses a credit line as a source of financing. If it is necessary to restructure the debt, the organization also asks the bank to open a credit line for it.
Small firms enter into an agreement for this service for a period from a quarter to a year. Medium and large can enter into a contract for several years. Also the interest rates for them are lower.
State and municipal institutions: state enterprises and formations, including: regions and municipalities – districts, cities. They cannot choose a bank for opening a credit line themselves and draw up a technical assignment, where they indicate the conditions of the loan and the requirements for the bank. Then the order is placed for tender. The winning organization opens a line of credit.
Individuals: for them, credit cards are more popular – means of payment with a limit of funds allocated by the bank for a certain period of time. Opening a credit line as a legal entity is rare due to the increased risks. Usually, borrowers who have passed a strict check and proven to have high incomes and excellent solvency, draw up a line of credit for building a house, a summer residence, and paying for education.
